We are all short on space and looking for ways to maximise the storage we have on hand. Learning how to fold your linen efficiently is a great skill and will change the way you use your linen closet. We’ve put together our favourite storage tips and folding techniques to help you create a beautiful yet efficient linen closet.
Storage Tips
Sort by Size and Type
Sorting your linen by size and type, such as sheets, towels, tables, etc, will make it easier for you to locate what you need when you need it. This is a great opportunity to declutter any linen that isn’t used or get a head start on a laundry clean-out.
How you Fold is Crucial
When folding your linen, try to make the folds as neat and even as possible. This will help keep your linen looking good and prevent it from becoming too wrinkled. Keep reading for our favourite folding techniques
Stack Similar Items
Stacking similar items together, such as all your sheets and all your pillowcases will make it easier to see what you have and keep everything organised! This will also help to create a dedicated place in the closet for each category of linen.
Use a Storage Container
Consider storing your linen in containers, our Modular Containers will help to protect your linen from dust and moisture and make it more convenient to move if necessary. To make it easier to find what you need, label your storage containers using our QR stickers and track what you have stored in each tub using our Organise by Inabox Mobile App for the ultimate storage win.
Folding Techniques
Now let’s get into the fun stuff…
Basic Fold
This is the most simple and common folding technique. Start by folding the towel or piece of linen in half lengthwise, then fold it in half again. Finally, fold it in thirds or quarters, depending on the size of the item.
KonMari Fold
This technique is inspired by the KonMari method of organising, popularised by Marie Kondo. Start by folding the towel or linen in half lengthwise, and then fold it in thirds. Finally, fold it in half again, creating a compact, rectangular shape that stands upright.
Rolled Fold
This technique is ideal for storing towels and linen in small spaces or drawers. Start by folding the towel or linen in half lengthwise, and then roll it up tightly. This will create a compact, cylindrical shape that can be easily stored.
Fan Fold
This technique is ideal for large items like tablecloths and bed sheets. Start by folding the item in half lengthwise, and then fold it in half again. You will then need to fold it in thirds or quarters and finally fold it accordion-style, creating a fan shape.
