Research suggests that an organised home environment contributes positively to mental health and wellbeing, so why not get your home in order? Organising your home can lead to:

  • Increased productivity
  • Reduction of stress, depression and anxiety
  • Improved sleep
  • Better food choices

An organised home environment will allow you more time to focus and enjoy the things you care about, such as your relationships and improved eating habits. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Let’s get organising!

First things first, be sure to plan and prepare to de-clutter your space.

Collect your necessary storage tools such as garbage bags, vacuum seal bags and affordable storage containers like our Inabox Home or Heavy Duty Tubs.

Don’t try and get it all done at once, set yourself small goals and tick them off as you go. By choosing to divide and conquer with your time, you won’t get distracted or overwhelmed by the project.

Follow our five simple steps to help you get organised.

Step one:
Empty everything from the space you are organising. This could be your pantry, laundry cupboard, bathroom cabinets – virtually any space within your home.

Step two:
Clean the area thoroughly by dusting and wiping down the surfaces.

Step three:
Sort through your belongings and separate into the following categories:

  • Keep – If the item is used regularly or holds sentimental value, place it in a labelled Inabox Home Tub for tidy storage and easy access.
  • Recycle or Waste – Figure out what items can be recycled and what items need to be responsibly discarded.
  • Donate – If your items are still in good condition and could be useful for somebody in need, why not donate them?
  • Sell – Consider which items you might like to sell through online marketplaces such as eBay, Gumtree or Facebook.

For those items you can’t quite decide on, place them in an Inabox Heavy Duty Tub. Label and date the tub and if you haven’t revisited it in 6 months, it might just be time to part ways.

Step 4
Once you have sorted through all your belongings, take the Inbox Home Tub with the items you would like to keep and divide these into “like categories” – depending on what room you are organising, these categories will differ.

For example, if you are organising your linen closet, you will divide the contents into categories such as towels, bed linen, washing detergent etc.

Step 5
Once you have finalised your categories, it’s time to place these items into labelled Home Tubs, and finally put them back into the cupboard you are storing the goods.

So, there you have it, five simple steps that will help you achieve an organised home and improve your wellbeing.

The key is to plan, set yourself a goal, and try to keep your organised space tidy. It doesn’t take long to put things away and by sticking to a routine, you will reap the benefits of a decluttered house and a decluttered mind.
